AY, Peter Okoye, Osita Iheme Trapped In Attempted Turkish Military Coup (Photos)

On Friday night, a military coup erupted in Turkey as an army group announced via State television that a “peace council” had taken over the government and martial law had been imposed in the country.
Foreign media reported that there were tanks and soldiers in the streets while heavy gunfire and explosions were heard at several government building in country’s capital, Ankara which killed 80 people.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who wasn’t in the country when the coup started, urged his supporters to go into the streets and protest against the attempted overthrow of a democratically elected government. At the end, the voice of the people was far stronger than any weapon the military had in the world!
Unfortunately, Nigerian celebrities Peter Okoye, AY Makun and Osita Iheme were caught-up in the crossfire in Turkey and fans have expressed their concern over their safety.
The trio are in the Turkish city of Antalya to support the charity match of Cameroonian footballer, Samuel Eto’o which was set to hold today, July 16.
A few hours ago, AY moved to douse concerns for their safety after internet connectivity was restored. He wrote,
‘Thank you for all the love and concern from back home. We are fine where we are in Turkey. Keep praying for us and Turkey. #etocharitymatch.’
As organisers continue to monitor the current crisis, Lionel Messi has pulled out of the charity game due to security concerns.
More details soon.
